Helgeson, Bruce “Fish”

Bruce “Fish” Helgeson, 56, Waupaca, passed away after a long battle with M.S. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Crossroads Care Center of Crystal River.

He was born on February 20, 1959 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, son of Alvin and Margaret Helgeson. Bruce graduated from Waupaca High School in 1978. He then spent the next 17 years working at the Waupaca Foundry. Bruce was best known for his work in the core room. He was a hard worker and nothing would stop him. Bruce was a gifted story and joke teller, enjoyed making people laugh. He loved the outdoors, especially the snow. He loved spending his time going out for coffee and talking with people. Bruce loved his children more than anything and was so proud of them, he would tell that to anyone who would listen.

Bruce is survived by his daughter, Nicole (Murphy) Harnack of Madison, WI; son, Tyler Helgeson of Waupaca, WI; brother, Rodney (Kathy) Helgeson; sister, Donette (Larry) Woods; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Judy Maggio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Margaret Helgeson and a sister, Karen Helgesen.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., October 24th at Holly’s Funeral Home in Waupaca. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jennifer DeNetz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce’s name can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Crossroads Care Center of Waupaca. Everyone there was a second family to Bruce and treated him as such. And also thank you to Theda Care Hospice for their wonderful care.
