Austin, Arthur “Art” Sewall

Arthur “Art” Sewall Austin, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the age of 76, surrounded by his family.

Art is predeceased by his parents, Sewall and Vera Austin; a sister, Dorothy Genske; and a brother, Paul Herter. Art is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Beverly. They were married in Antigo, Wisconsin on April 9, 1966. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kim Birschbach and her husband, Dean, of Fond du Lac; his son, Mike Austin and his wife, Carrie, of Adel, Iowa. Art will also be missed by his seven granddaughters: Whitney, Lindsay, and Kelsey Birschbach, Alexis, Victoria, and Ella Austin, and Brynna Yocom.

Art was born at Cook County Hospital in Chicago on August 20, 1939. He graduated from Iola High School, Iola, Wisconsin in 1957. Art went on to become a professional semi driver, driving for Mercury Marine for 33 years. He retired from driving in 2000. Over his driving career, he amassed nearly five million miles accident free. He will be remembered by his family for his ability to fix anything, he was thought of as a Mr. Fix-It. He was also his family’s private driving instructor, teaching not only his children, but also his three oldest granddaughters.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Aaron Odya officiating. The visitation will be on Saturday at Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in North Lamartine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Agnesian Hospice and Agnesian Cancer Center.
