Event features culinary samples, cooking tips

Ten different recipes were featured at the Nov. 19 Taste of Home event, in Manawa.
The recipes were presented by culinary specialist Karen Davis to a crowd of over 250 people.
During the cooking school, Davis provided weeknight meal ideas, kitchen tips, tricks and shortcuts.
She demonstrated a quick way to crack eggs, by cracking one egg against another egg.
“Only one egg will crack,” she said.
Davis also advised people to use cooking spray in front of an open dishwasher.
“Then when you run the dishwasher, it washes away the residue oil,” she said.
Davis showed the best way to chop an onion, by using a sharp knife and cutting the root end last. She said this method helps avoid the strong onion smell, which may cause watery eyes.
Each participant received a gift bag, and many received door prizes during the event.
The participants also received samples and ideas from a variety of local vendors.
Manawa’s second annual Taste of Home Cooking Show was held in partnership with the Manawa Area Chamber of Commerce.
