Paperwork requested in only one district

Dec. 1 was the first day that residents seeking to run in April’s election — either for city council or mayor — could request candidacy paperwork from the city of Clintonville.
Up for re-election on the council are Alderman Jim Krause in District 1, Alderwoman Gloria Dunlavy in District 2, Alderwoman Mary-Beth Kuester in District 4, and Alderwoman Jeannie Schley in District 5.
District 3 Alderman John Wilson, who is currently on a medical leave of absence, is also up for re-election. Alderwoman Amy Steenbock is currently filling in for Wilson. If Steenbock wants to continue to serve on the council, she must run in the April election.
On Monday, Dec. 7, city of Clintonville Clerk Treasurer Peggy Johnson told the Tribune-Gazette that none of the current council members up for re-election have requested non-candidacy papers. The deadline to submit non-candidacy paperwork is Monday, Dec. 28.
Johnson also told the Tribune-Gazette that only two residents have requested candidacy papers, both in District 4. Kuester has requested candidacy papers, as has Tim Zilch.
Candidacy papers have not been requested by any citizens in the other districts.
Residents in the city of Clintonville will be electing a new mayor in the April election. Mayor Judy Magee will be resigning as mayor on Jan. 1. The resignation is part of the Chapter 17 complaint agreement between Magee and Tricia Rose, who filed the complaint.
The agenda for the city council meeting scheduled for Dec. 8, included an item regarding the appointment of an individual to serve as mayor of Clintonville from Jan. 1 through April 19.
According to Johnson, as of Dec. 7, no citizen has requested candidacy papers for mayor.
The deadline to file candidacy papers is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The spring election is Tuesday, April 5.
