Duwe, Marcella B.

Marcella B. Duwe, age 81, of Clintonville passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center.

The former Marcella Blanche Hoffmann was born on February 13, 1934 in Tigerton to Franklin and Florence (Steinke) Hoffmann. She graduated from Tigerton High School in 1951 and then went on to UW Stevens Point for one year. Marcella was united in marriage on August 9, 1952 to Robert N. Duwe at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Clintonville. In her early years, Marcella worked for some time at Hansen Glove Factory and also at JC Penney’s Department Store, both in Clintonville. Then she started as an Operator at Urban Telephone Company, Clintonville, (now known as Frontier Communications) working for 28 years, retiring in the early 1990s. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on January 5, 2003. Marcella was an active member at St. Martin; serving the parish with the Ladies Aide and she volunteered with countless funeral luncheons. She was also a dedicated Life Member of the DAV Auxiliary Unit #53 of Manawa. Marcella liked playing cards, especially bridge and sheepshead; working in her flower and vegetable gardens; and making dandelion, rhubarb, or strawberry wine. Her other interests included playing polkas on the piano, sewing clothes for her family, and baking her fabulous cookies or apple bars. Marcella’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, Brian (Shirley) Duwe of Marion and Carrie (Mark) Willems of Clintonville. There are two grandsons, Thomas (special friend Katie Moe) Fitzmaurice of Oshkosh and Timothy (Christina) Fitzmaurice of Clintonville. There are four great-grandchildren, Paige and Olivia Lundt, and Werner and Everett Gobeli. There is one brother, Quinten (Marie) Hoffmann of Tigerton; and two sisters, Beverly Lattel of Virginia and Loretta (Bill) Meyer of Tigerton. There are three sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bob) Klevesahl of Appleton, Marilee Dickrell of Freedom, and Paula Duwe of Georgetown, TX; and one brother-in-law, Roger (Joyce) Duwe of Denmark. She is further survived by a special aunt, Ophelia Knaup of Tigerton, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Marcella is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Bermuda (William) Cooper, and five brothers, Eugene (Carol) Hoffmann, Duane Hoffmann, Franklin (Roberta) Hoffmann, Winson Hoffmann, and Luther Hoffmann as an infant.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 17th at 12:00 noon at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville. Rev. Christian Burg will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville is assisting the family.
