Jones Publishing acquires Sunshine Artist

Monthly publication focuses on art and craft shows

Jones Publishing has acquired Sunshine Artist from Palm House Publishing of Orlando, Florida.

“Jones Publishing is an important part of Iola’s future and this acquisition strengthens the company as a vital economic presence in the Iola-Scandinavia community,” said Rya Jones, president.

“We have been publishing Sunshine Artist for the past 15 years and feel confident that Jones Publishing will continue in our tradition of excellence,” said Ron Jones, publisher for Palm House Publishing. “With the resources at Jones Publishing, I believe Sunshine Artist will continue to be the premier publication in its field.”

Since 1972, Sunshine Artist has provided its readers with comprehensive reviews of everything from fine art fairs and festivals to small craft shows around the country. The publication focuses on all aspects of the shows from sales to artist amenities to the quality of the art or craft.

Included in each issue are hundreds of art and craft show listings, including contacts, booth fees, application deadlines and the type of art and/or craft that event accepts. The magazine also includes feature stories on everything from tips for vendor businesses to in-depth reports on current trends on the show circuit.

“Jones Publishing has been publishing magazines serving artists and craftspeople since the late ‘80s,” Rya Jones said. “We’ve declared war on the term ‘starving artist’ – we provide resources for independent artists to get in business and stay in business. Sunshine Artist will multiply those resources exponentially.”

Founded on March 1, 1986, as the Joe Jones Agency, the home basement-run business grew from a two-magazine enterprise into a widely respected niche publisher serving the collectible, artistic, religious and aviation fields.

Embarking on its 30th anniversary year, Jones Publishing has grown to 18 employees and publisher of nine magazines and several newsletters. The firm also hosts multiple web sites and discussion boards.

In addition, Jones Publishing offers several custom publishing options for companies which want to expand their marketing efforts and increase their influence with customers.

Magazine titles in addition to Sunshine Artist published by Jones Publishing include: Smart Retailer, Handmade Business, Cessna Owners Magazine, Pipers Owner Magazine, Dolls, Haute Doll, Teddy Bear & Friends and Today’s Christian Living.
