Firefighters battling sub-zero weather

By John Faucher

Firefighters from the Hortonville-Hortonia Fire Department and New London Fire Department were called to a structure fire in the town of Hortonia shortly after 8 a.m. Monday.

The fire destroyed a large hilltop home located at W10233 County Hwy TT. The home also serves as a business headquarters for Prestige Executive Limousines Ltd., and Serenity Hills Bed and Breakfast.

Firefighters struggled with sub-zero temperatures and a three-tenths of a mile long ice covered driveway leading up to the home. Firefighters and responders could be seen walking up the long driveway from CTY TT, where fire trucks were staged to help battle the blaze.

Temperatures dipped to -14 degrees on Monday morning at the time of the fire.

Black smoke from the fire was visible from several miles away. Passing motorists were lined up along Winchester Road and Ledge Hill Road watching the fire.

A long yellow high capacity hose ran along the driveway and up the hill.

Firefighters remained on scene at the time this story was posted. At 11:20 a.m. an additional man power request went out to any available departments in Outagamie County.
