Cancer awareness event in Manawa

By Jared Zielke

“Rock the Gym,” slated for Friday, Feb. 5, will be a night featuring basketball, activities and food.

To support awareness of breast cancer and help raise money, Little Wolf Junior/Senior High School will “Think Pink.”

Money raised at Manawa’s “Think Pink” events at is donated to the American Cancer Society to aid in research or any expenses.

During “Rock the Gym,” both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, junior varsity and varsity from Weyauwega-Fremont and Manawa, play in one evening. Those who come to the event are encouraged to wear pink.

Organizer and coordinator of the school’s Think Pink event, Sandra Cordes, said she hopes everyone in the stands will be wearing pink and that it will be a solid wave of the color. The basketball players will be wearing pink warm-ups, as well.

There will also be prizes and games that go along with the event, including a raffle drawing for a flat screen TV, the game of Plinko and a bake sale.

Anyone who wears pink to this event will automatically earn a free ticket to put in the raffle for the TV. All other extra drawings will be earned as a prize through Plinko.

The gym and school will have banners and posters as decoration for the event, but the one true decoration they are asking for is from the participation in wearing pink.

The night will be filled with good morale, and the excitement of helping to create awareness and fight cancer with donations.
