Winning the program’s first-ever Great Northern Conference championship was just one of the highlights last season for the Waupaca Area girls’ hockey team.

The team will raise its conference championship banner Friday, Jan. 29, at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center before the squad takes on Northland Pines.

Appleton United handed the team a 2-1 overtime loss Jan. 26.

Markie Ash scored Waupaca Area’s goal 3:05 into the game off of an assist from Jamie Slattery, but United tied the game on Maddi Schultz’s goal in the second period and won it on Liisa Cramer’s goal 2:29 into the overtime period.
