Winter storm on its way

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a winter storm warning for heavy and blowing snow, in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Expect snow to develop midmorning Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall will occur between noon and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The snow will begin to taper off late Tuesday evening, though periods of light snow and the blowing and drifting will continue overnight.

A total snow accumulation of 7 to 12 inches is expected.

Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph will result in considerable blowing and drifting of the snow. The combination of falling snow and blowing snow will significantly reduce the visibility at times.

Plan for difficult travel conditions, especially for the evening commute on Tuesday.

Although the snow will have tapered off to flurries and the winds will begin to subside, travel conditions for the Wednesday morning commute will depend on how quickly highway crews are able to treat the roads.
