Update on Veterans Freedom Park

Fundraising continues in Manawa

By John Smith

The Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Park Committee’s fundraising efforts are in full swing.

The following is an update on the upcoming fundraising opportunities.

The committee is selling raffle tickets for a 2016 Yamaha Kodiak 700 4X4. The tickets are on sale for $20 at many area businesses and with committee members.

The 4 wheeler will be on tour at several Manawa area winter events, including Winterfest on Feb. 13 at Bear Lake; the Valentines Country Show at the Manawa Masonic Center; and the Manawa Snodeo on Feb. 20 at Bear Lake.

This year, all proceeds from the Taste of Wisconsin will go towards the Veterans Freedom Park fund. The annual Taste of Wisconsin is set for April 19 at Smith’s Manawa Steak House.

The wine, cheese and treat tasting event showcases local products as well as products from other areas of the state. This year the event will expand its beverage tasting to include two microbreweries.

Vendors already committed for 2016 include Wollersheim Winery, Dupont Cheese, Sweet Queens Home Bakery, Customized Glass Designs by Lori, Ivory Wind with Strings Attached, Lakefront Brewery and Pigeon River Brewery.

Tickets will be on sale soon at Smith’s Manawa Steak House and at other local businesses. The cost is $25 per person.

Fundraising will continue with the Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Shoot on May 14. This event is for all ages and gender, including young shooters and ladies.

The shoot will begin at noon at the Manawa Fish & Gun Club, with the banquet at Conroy’s Bear Lake Resort.

The price is $60 per shooter to include two rounds of 25 trap and dinner at Bear Lake immediately following the shoot.

There will be a team shoot for $100 per entry, which will be a five-person team with 25 birds per team member. Each team can shoot as many times as they wish to enter.

The event will also include Annie Oakley shoots for those who want to fulfill their competitive urges.

A cash purse will be paid for all events.

A night of raffles, drinks and dinner will follow the shooting. Non-shooters can enjoy the dinner and raffles for $20 per person.

Shooters are encouraged to sign up early at Smith’s Manawa Steak House or contact John Smith at 920-284-2782.
