Clintonville loses three games

Tough second halves were the theme for the Clintonville boys’ basketball team this past week.

Of three games, the Truckers ended each first half either in the lead or tied. But in the second half each game their opponent got the upper hand.

At Wrightstown on Monday, Feb. 8, both teams tied 23-23 during the first half before Clintonville lost its competitive edge in the second half. The Truckers scored 11 points while the Tigers racked up 31 points to end the game in the Tigers’ favor 54-34.

The Truckers previously lost to Wrightstown by a 20-point margin, 70-50, on Jan. 12.

The loss brought about the Truckers’ eighth consecutive loss in a 4-14 season. They’ll try to end that streak Friday, Feb. 12, when they travel to Little Chute for a North Eastern Conference game.

Shawano 59, Clintonville 44
CLINTONVILLE – Lagging behind the Truckers 21-17 at the half, the Shawano Hawks turned out a 42-point second half to overpower their competition on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The game was part of a nonconference double-header with the girls’ team against Shawano’s basketball teams.

Scoring: Krueger 14, Petermann 10, Lorge 9, Kyle Finger 5, Koeppen 3, Wittman 3.

Freedom 56, Clintonville 41
CLINTONVILLE – The Truckers dropped their lead during a 12-point second half against Freedom on Thursday, Feb. 4.

The Truckers led 29-28 at the half. But the Irish outscored the Truckers 28-12 in the second half to win 56-41.

“Our first 24 minutes or so of the game was OK,” Clintonville coach Shawn Howe said. “It was a two-or-three-point game in the middle of the second half. We had a five-minute stretch where we lost our composure and had a turnover followed by some poor offensive possessions.

“Composure has been a theme for us in this past stretch,” Howe said. “We have been letting our emotions get the best of us.”

Earlier in the season, the Truckers lost to the Irish 52-46.
