Inmate charged with more sex crimes

A former New Hope man who is currently in prison for sex crimes now faces additional charges.

Alex J. Platta, 30, Dodge Correctional Institution, is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child.

Plaata was sentenced to eight years in prison after he was convicted of repeated sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Portage County.

He is accused of assaulting the same girl after she and her family moved to Waupaca.

On July 27, 2015, the girl was interviewed at the Fox Valley Child Advocacy Center as part of an ongoing investigation in both counties.

She told the investigator Platta initially told her he loved her and began touching her. Over time, their relationship became sexual. She also said she and Platta watched porn together.

According to the criminal complaint, Platta told the girl not to tell anybody because if she did, he would not be allowed to see his son again.

On Aug. 25, 2015, Platta told Detective Steve Brown, with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, that his relationship with the girl started with cuddling on the couch, then developed into intercourse, according to the criminal complaint.

In 2006, Platta was convicted of fourth-degree sexual assault and placed on 18 months of probation with the conditions that he perform 50 hours of community service and have no contact with underage girls.

In 2013, Platta petitioned the Portage County Circuit Court to have his sexual assault record expunged. His petition was denied.
