T-Birds come up short

I-S girls to open tournament at home

Amherst, Shiocton and Bonduel picked up recent Central Wisconsin-8 Conference girls’ basketball wins over Iola-Scandinavia.

Amherst handed the Thunderbirds a 51-36 loss Feb. 18, while Shiocton defeated I-S 52-38 Feb. 16 and Bonduel got a 52-41 win Feb. 16.

Amherst 51, I-S 36
The Falcons held the T-Birds’ leading scorer, Leighten Fischer, to five points while wrapping up at least a share of the CWC-8 championship.

Heather Pearson had the hot hand for Amherst in the first half, as she scored eight of her game-high 23 points that helped the Falcons take a 24-18 lead at the break.

Baleigh Fuhs led the T-Birds with 10 point, seven rebounds and three steals, while Lexi Hitchcock and Kaylin Ellioff had five rebounds each.

Baleigh Fuhs paced the Thunderbirds with 10 points in the losing effort.

 

Shiocton 52, I-S 38
Fischer led all scorers with 20 points, but it wasn’t enough against the Chiefs.

Tina Ubl and Madi Morack led Shiocton with 15 points each.

Fischer added seven rebounds and three assists, while Fuhs scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Bonduel 52, I-S 41
The Bears outscored the T-Birds 28-23 in the first half and 24-18 in the second.

Fischer finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and steals, while Mia Wandtke added nine points; Ellioff had eight rebounds and four steals; and Kendall Johnson dished out five assists.

The T-Birds will host Mishicot at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal. The winner will travel to Algoma Friday, Feb. 26, for a matchup with the top-seeded Wolves.
