Amherst wins in OT

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds suffered a 53-51 loss in overtime to the Amherst Falcon’s in a Friday, Feb. 19, conference game in Iola.
Amaziah McCall sank 11 points for Amherst in the first half of the game, giving the Falcons a 33-24 advantage.
The T-Birds came back strong in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 24-15, led by Zach Mortenson and Adam Cherek who each scored six points.
Cherek sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 48 points and sending the game into overtime.
I-S was the first to score, when Cherek once again sank a 3-pointer.
Garret Groshek and Tyler Biadasz combined for five points in final period to give Amherst a 53-51 victory.
Leading the scoring for Iola-Scandinavia was Mortenson with 20, followed by Cherek with 16.
McCall scored 14 points for Amherst, followed by Biadasz and Groshek with 13 each.
Iola-Scandinavia will travel to Manawa on Thursday, Feb. 25, to take on the Wolves and Amherst will head to Shiocton to take on the Chiefs.
