Woman charged with battery

A Clintonville woman is accused of attacking her 71-year-old father when he refused give her more money.

Amber L. Barry, 30, is charged with aggravated battery of an elderly person, disorderly conduct and felony bail jumping.

On Feb. 12, Weyauwega Police Chief Gerald Poltrock responded to a call from an apartment on North East Street. When he arrived, he met with an elderly man who had handprints around his neck and a large bump over his right eye.

The man, identified as Barry’s father, said Barry came to his apartment and starting behaving strangely.

According to the criminal complaint, Barry walked in and out of the bathroom several times, turning the lights on and off, and saying, “They’re coming to get me.”

Barry allegedly demanded that her father give her some money. He offered her $40, she tried to take the rest of his cash, and then punched him in the face and knocked him to the floor when he refused to give it to her, the complaint says.

He screamed for help and a neighbor came over and called 911.

Police reported that Barry’s father has cancer and relies on an oxygen tank to breath.

Barry was charged with burglary and theft on Dec. 7, 2015, and released on a $5,000 signature bond.
