Holz leads I-S with game-high 35 points

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds defeated the Gibraltar Vikings 81-62 in a Tuesday, March 1 regional matchup in Iola.
During the first half of the game Kenny Holz scored 18 points for Iola-Scandinavia, while Anthony Laughlin poured in 13 for the Vikings in a nearly balanced scoring effort that sent the T-Birds to the locker room with a 38-34 lead in the game.
Iola-Scandinavia came back even stronger in the second half, outscoring Gibraltar 43-28.
Laughlin led the scoring for Gibraltar with 21 points, followed by Thor Johnson with 15 and Tyler Kropuenske with 14.
Holz took top honors for the T-Birds scoring a game high 35 points, followed by Kristian Welch with 16 and Mortenson with 14.
Zach Mortenson dominated the boards for I-S, bringing down 11 rebounds.
Iola-Scandinavia will travel to Shiocton on Friday, March 4 to take on the Chief in round two of regional play in the WIAA state basketball tournament.
