He worked for Team Electronics, later becoming the owner/operator of Team Commercial Electronics from 1976 to 1981. Subsequently, he opened and operated the Curtis Mathes Home Entertainment Center in Eau Claire until his retirement in 1991.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Esther Purchatzke, sister Beverly Hayes, and brother and sister-in-law Willard and Donna Purchatzke.

In his early years Vernon was an avid baseball player, playing through his service days in the Army. In his retirement Vernon enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren, golf, travel and tinkering with electronics. He and his wife Shirley briefly lived in and enjoyed Fountain Hills, AZ from 2012 to 2013. Vernon succumbed to a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. His family thanks all the dear support from those at Azura Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice.
