Game moved to Weyauwega

By Greg Seubert

Weyauwega-Fremont’s softball team continued its winning ways April 1 with a 12-1 nonconference win over Merrill.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Merrill, but was moved to Weyauwega.

Merrill came up with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead, but the Indians answered with an eighth-run fourth.

Merrill didn’t have an answer for Kiley Akey, who held the Bluejays to two hits and struck out seven batters.

The Indians took the lead for good with two runs in the second and added two more in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth.

Jordan Rucks, Kaitlyn Hickey, Genna Knorr, Hailey Krause and Cara Volz each had two of the Indians’ 16 hits. Rucks also drove in three runs.

The Indians were scheduled to open Central Wisconsin-8 Conference play April 5 in Stevens Point against defending Division 4 state champion Pacelli. W-F will also host Amherst at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7.
