Barkow, Verna M.

Barkow, Verna MVerna M. Barkow, age 91 of the Township of Pella, passed away peacefully on early Friday morning, April 15, 2016 at Pine Manor Healthcare Center, Embarrass.

Verna Martha Barkow was born April 20, 1924 in the Town of Pella to the late Albert and Meta (Koeller) Korth. She attended Pella Rural School and completed her studies through eighth grade. Verna was united in marriage to Julius F. Barkow on November 14, 1942 in Embarrass. They enjoyed shooting couple’s pool together at The Village Inn, and she even tried her hand at deer hunting a time or two. Verna was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pella Opening, where she served on the Ladies Aid for many years. She loved caring for her family through cooking and baking; no one ever went hungry in the Barkow household. She will be remembered for her love of crocheting, as well as how she tended her gardens.

Survivors include: a daughter, Carol (Ron) Trego, Clintonville; sons, Robert Barkow, Clintonville and Roger grandchildren: Ken Jr., Klint, Kristine, Kia, Brian, Jessie, and Andy; great-grandchildren: Klay, Kolton, Madi, Caleb, Gavin, Paige, Kameron, and Sydney; and a daughter-in-law, Karen (friend, Bill) Barkow, Clintonville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius; a son, Kenneth; a son-in-law, Randy Briske; sisters, Milda Born and Edna Barkow; and a brother, Silas Korth.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pella Opening, Town of Pella, with Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating. Interment took place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Pella. Friends called at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
