Kiley Akey holds Thunderbirds hitless
By Greg Seubert
There’s still plenty of softball to be played yet, but it looks like Weyauwega-Fremont is the team to beat this season in the Central Wisconsin-8 Conference.
The Indians improved to 3-0 in conference play and 7-0 overall April 14 with a 5-0 win over previously unbeaten Iola-Scandinavia.
The Indians scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, as leadoff hitter Karissa Akey reached on an error and eventually scored on Genna Knorr’s sacrifice bunt.
W-F added two more runs in the second and two in the fifth.
Kiley Akey tossed a no-hitter to get the win on the mound. She gave up a pair of walks and the Thunderbirds’ only other baserunner reached on an error. Akey also struck out the side in the top of the seventh to end the game and finished with 12 strikeouts.
Kendall Erickson took the loss for the T-Birds.
