Comets win two of three

Waupaca softball team tops Mustangs, Truckers

The Waupaca softball team now has a pair of North Eastern Conference road wins under its belt.

The Comets used a five-run third inning to beat Little Chute 10-4 April 18 and shut out Clintonville 11-0 April 12.

Waupaca also fell to Fox Valley Lutheran 5-1 April 14.
Waupaca 10, Little Chute 4

Waupaca erased a 2-1 deficit with five runs in the third before adding two more in the fourth and sixth to get the win over the Mustangs.

Brenna Oleson had three of the Comets’ 12 hits and scored three runs, while teammates Markie Ash, Kenzie Simpson and Autumn Grenlie each drove in a pair of runs.

Alyssa Engebretson scattered five hits over five innings to get the win on the mound.

FVL 5, Waupaca 1

The Foxes built a 5-0 lead with runs in the second and fifth innings and three more in the sixth before Waupaca got on the board with a run in the top of the seventh.

Jenny Dahle had two of Waupaca’s six hits, while Victoria Nowak and Oleson had a triple and double, respectively.

Engebretson took the loss for the Comets.

Waupaca 11, Clintonville 0

Kat Otter hit an inside-the-park home run for Waupaca in a shutout win over the Truckers.

Waupaca headed to Luxemburg-Casco April 19 for a conference matchup with the Spartans and will open a four-game home stand Friday, April 22, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader with Oconto Falls. Waupaca will also host Ripon Monday, April 25, and Freedom Tuesday, April 26.
