Niemuth’s earns state awards

Snack sausage named grand champion

Niemuth’s Steak and Chop Shop of Waupaca was recognized with two awards at the 77th annual convention of the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors held in Madison March 31 through April 3.

Niemuth’s jalapeno sticks was named Grand Champion in the Flavored Snack Sausage Class, while Grandpa Bob’s Plain Summer Sausage received the Champion Award in the Cooked Summer Sausage Class.

The Wisconsin Meat Product Competition is the largest of its kind in the United States.

Meat processors and meat markets from throughout the state entered 944 products in 36 categories, including summer sausage, bratwurst, ham, bacon, smoked poultry and other types of meat products.

Niemuth’s entered nine products in nine classes in this year’s competition.

More than 40 judges, including food scientists, out-of-state meat processors and other food industry specialists evaluated the products.
