Waupaca fifth at first invitational

The Waupaca boys’ golf team outshot four other teams to win a North Eastern Conference meet at Kaukauna’s Fox Valley Golf Club.
The Comets also opened the season April 15 by placing fifth out of 15 teams at the rescheduled Wautoma Invitational at the Waushara Country Club in Wautoma.
North Eastern meet
The Comets outshot Wrightstown, Little Chute, Fox Valley Lutheran and Clintonville.
Team scores were Waupaca (175), Wrightstown (179), Little Chute (190), FVL (195) and Clintonville (226).
Isaac Wright turned in the medalist round with a 39 to lead Waupaca, followed by Mason Gardner (40), Logan Bunge (47) and Noah Carrick and Elliot Crisman (49).
“We made some adjustments to our game and improved as a team,” coach Tom Noltner said. “That is the goal: to improve every time we step onto the course.”
Wautoma Invitational
Waupaca placed fourth with a team score of 370, while Kaukauna won the meet with an even-par 288.
Gardner led Waupaca with an 86, followed by Crisman (89), Wright (95), Spencer Grams (100), Carrick (103) and Bunge (105).
The Comets competed April 19 at a conference meet at Freedom’s Irish Waters Golf Club.
