Paper drive at Waupaca High

Student council recycling program runs next month

The Waupaca High School Student Council will sponsor a paper recycling drive from Wednesday, May 25 to Friday, June 3.

This “green” event will not only raise funds for school events, clubs and charitable donations but also bring the school and community together to improve the sustainability of the environment.

In the past, the student council sponsored paper drives and earned money to help with student activities and specifically to purchase three filtered water bubblers, where students may refill their water bottles instead of throwing them away.

Both the paper drive and the bubblers help the environment.

The student council encourages community members to help continue this endeavor by bringing their paper and cardboard donations to the school.

Donations may be dropped into the dumpster, located at the loading dock in the high school’s student parking lot.

The items may be donated there between Wednesday, May 25 and Friday, June 3.

Students will be available there on the morning of Saturday, May 28, for those who need help unloading their paper and cardboard.

Acceptable paper items will include newspaper, construction paper, computer paper, paper bags, books, magazines and junk mail, as well as paper with staples, paperclips or a spiral binding.

Unacceptable paper items will be tissues, paper towels, paper napkins, waxed paper, tin foil or paper which has contained food particles, such as snack bags, potato chip bags and paper plates.

Acceptable cardboard items will include corrugated cardboard, cereal boxes (take the wax lining out), cracker boxes and tissue boxes. Unacceptable cardboard items will be waxed boxes like juice boxes or boxes which had food in contact with the cardboard, such as pizza.

People should not bring plastic dinnerware, straws, dry erase markers, food of any kind, clothing, crayons, erasers, pencils, pens, Styrofoam cups and containers, needles, plastic bags and full or half-full bottles of soda, water or other beverages.
