Mayor recommends committee appointments

New London council to meet May 10 for reorganization

New London Mayor Gary Henke has made recommendations for elected and public officials he would like to serve on city committees.

The recommendations must receive approval by the New London city council at its reorganizational meeting on May 10 before they go into effect.

John Faucher is the only new incoming alderman to New London city council. He ran unopposed in the April 5 election to win First District Alderman John Romberg’s seat. Romberg retired after 24 years of public service and didn’t seek another term.

The mayor’s recommended appointments are as follows:

Parks and recreation committee: Faucher would be appointed to fill Romberg’s vacancy.

Economic development: Faucher would be appointed to fill Romberg’s vacancy.

Planning commission: Donna Gabert would be reappointed to a three-year term.

Board of zoning appeals: Arnold Stern and Terry Dorschner, currently chair and vice chair, respectively, would be reappointed to three-year terms.

Board of review: Bob Besaw, currently an alternate, would be appointed to the 2016 board of review to fill Romberg’s vacancy. Faucher would be named an alternate.

Cemetery commission: Sandy Conardt, currently chairwoman, would be reappointed to a three-year term.

Housing authority: Cherie Handrich would be reappointed to a five-year term.

Police and fire commission: John Lee would be reappointed to another term.
