Iola-Scandinavia handed Manawa an 11-1 defeat May 5 in a matchup of Central Wisconsin-8 Conference baseball teams at Taylor Field.
Winning pitcher Carter Kurki retired the Wolves in order in the top of the first inning and the Thunderbirds got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the frame on base hits from Seth Korb and Jayden Sivertson.
Caleb Loken gave the T-Birds a 2-0 lead in the second on a base hit and he eventually scored on an overthrown ball.
The T-Birds added a third run in the third inning on a Brady Snyder hit.
Bo Koehn drove in Manawa’s run in the fourth, but that turned out to be the Wolves’ only run.
I-S loaded the bases three times in the bottom of the fifth and scored eight runs before the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Korb had three of the T-Birds’ 11 hits, while Steve Niemi and Sivertson added two each. Korb, Snyder, Niemi and Cam Gruenwald each drove in two runs.
John Holtz took the loss for the Wolves.
