Richard William Oertel, age 75, of New London, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at ThedaCare Appleton, following a two year battle with cancer.
Chuck was born July 14, 1940 to the late Howard and Mildred (Doman) Oertel, in the Township of Lebanon, Waupaca County. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Prochnow on June 28, 1958 in New London. Chuck loved his garden, woodworking, hunting and watching the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. He farmed, built silos and hauled cattle for many years. Chuck then worked at Hillshire Farm for 18 years until his retirement in 2007.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children: Brian Oertel (special friend, Armando), Bisbee, AZ; Greg Oertel, Worland, WY; Todd Oertel (fiancée Katrina), New London; Thad Oertel, Weyauwega and Tanya Birner (fiancé Chris Sommer), New London; eight grandchildren: Jason, Adam, Jeremy, Amanda, Stephen, Kristen, Gabriella and Gretchen; five great-grandchildren: Kyra, Alana, Dayton, Leif and Noelan; brother, Howard Oertel, Madison and sister, Nancy Viscosky, Appleton. Chuck is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce; sister, Alice Friday; brother-in-law, Bob Viskosky and sister-in-law, Jane Oertel.
A funeral service for Chuck will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Rev. William Heiges will be officiating. Visitation will be directly at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Northport Ostrander Cemetery.
