ADA accessible launch opens in Hortonville

Collaborative effort on Black Otter Lake

By John Faucher

People of all ages gathered on the shores of Black Otter Lake Saturday, May 7 to witness the dedication of a new ADA accessible kayak launch at Black Otter County Park.

The facility is located on the lake’s northeast corner.

Black Otter Lake is the only lake located in Hortonville.

Village President Traci Martens, and Matthew Schroeder, president of the Black Otter Lake District began Saturday’s dedication by thanking the collaborative partners responsible for making the new canoe and kayak launch possible.

Partners included the Black Otter Lake District, village of Hortonville, the Outagamie County Greenway Fund, Fox Valley Asphalt of Neenah, BMO, Lions Club, Wolf River Community Bank, and community member participation.

Crews from the village department of public works and Fox Valley Asphalt put the final additions on the new ADA accessible facility early last week.

“It was just a very big collaborative effort to make sure that this was done properly and something that the village will be able to use for years to come,” said Schroeder.

The launch is open to all people at no charge.

“It’s been a great initiative to beautify our parks, and it’s been all inclusive for everybody that wants to take and enjoy nature,” said Martens.
