Indians defeat Manawa, Shiocton

Akey strikes out 26 batters in two games

The strikeouts continue to add up for Weyauwega-Fremont’s Kiley Akey.

Not strikeouts at the plate, but strikeouts from the mound.

The sophomore pitcher fanned 26 batters in her last two games, including 12 May 9 in a 5-0 win over Manawa and 14 May 5 in a 2-0 win at Shiocton.

The Indians also picked up a 4-3 win at Amherst May 2.

W-F 5, Manawa 0
WEYAUWEGA – Akey held the Wolves to three hits and the Indians scored all five of their runs in the first two innings.

Jordan Rucks and Cadyn Ehrenberg had two of the Indians’ seven hits, while Claire Kreklow tripled for the Wolves.

W-F 2, Shiocton 0
SHIOCTON – Akey shut down the Chiefs’ offense by holding Shiocton to two hits.

Karissa Akey had two hits to lead the Indians at the plate. W-F scored its runs in the third and fifth innings on RBI bunts.

W-F 4, Amherst 3
AMHERST – The Falcons came up with two runs in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, but the Indians tied the game in the third and added two more runs in the fourth.

The Indians hosted St. Mary Catholic for a nonconference doubleheader May 10 and will return to Central Wisconsin-8 Conference play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Wittenberg-Birnamwood. W-F will also host West De Pere at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 13.
