Color Run in Weyauwega

Over 300 students participate in event

Cool temperatures and drizzle did not stop Weyauwega-Fremont students from laughing as they ran a 1.5-course on the school grounds.

Weyauwega Elementary’s Fuel Up to Play 60 team planned and organized a Color Run.

It was held on Friday, May 13.

Staff and students in kindergarten through eighth grade had the opportunity to participate in it, and the run had a total of 350 participants.

The course featured six color stations, where volunteers tossed colored powder at the runners.

Rachel Carson and Kristen Hanten advise Weyauwega Elementary’s Fuel Up to Play 60 team.

The group is made up of fourth- and fifth-grade students who applied for and were chosen for the leadership role.

Hanten said the main focus of Fuel Up to Play 60 is to encourage healthy eating, along with 60 minutes of physical activity each day.

“Our team has planned numerous events this year, including a cheese tasting and mileage club. The Color Run was our big event to end the year,” she said. “We decided to do the Color Run because it was a fun way for kids to be active and try a new experience at the same time.” The activity was made possible by a grant the team and W-F Middle School’s team received from the Fuel Up to Play 60 organization.

Area businesses also helped out with snacks at the finish line.

Agropur donated cheese sticks, and the Waupaca Area Farm Bureau donated the chocolate milk.

Anna Duxbury, of Pulse Photography, took pictures of their event.
