Waupaca girls notch first victory

Jeske scores twice against Clintonville

It may have taken longer than expected, but the Waupaca girls’ soccer team finally has a win under its belt.

The Comets headed to Clintonville May 19 and returned home with a 3-1 North Eastern Conference win over the Truckers.

Waupaca also dropped a 2-1 decision May 17 to Freedom.

CLINTONVILLE – The Comets took a 2-0 halftime lead on Ashley Jeske’s goal at the 15-minute mark off of a Claire Jungers assist. Goalkeeper Taylor Korth added a penalty kick with a minute remaining in the first half.

Emily Klein put the Truckers on the board with a penalty kick five minutes into the second half, but Jeske came up with an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining off of an assist from Elle Miller.

The Comets outshot the Truckers 16-8 and Korth finished with seven saves.

Freedom 2, Waupaca 1
WAUPACA – Raina Gerritts scored twice in the first half to lead the Irish over the Comets.

Kayla Pennebecker found the net with 13 minutes to go in the game and scored off of an assist from Jungers.

Freedom outshot the Comets 13-3.

Waupaca hosted Hortonville May 23 and will host Little Chute at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, before wrapping up the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Assumption in Wisconsin Rapids.
