When a swarm of bees were discovered on a shrub outside of the Waupaca Area Public Library this week, the city contacted Dr. Mike Bauer for his assistance.

Bauer, a physician at ThedaCare Physicians-Waupaca, is a beekeeper. Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 25, Bauer arrived.

Roger Hansen, Waupaca’s street superintendent, helped him by spraying a scent to calm the bees.

They estimated between 5,000 and 6,000 bees were swarming there, protecting the queen as other bees looked elsewhere to build a hive.
