Area athletes shine at state

Kisting wins two championships

Several area athletes placed at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships, held June 3-4 in La Crosse.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Erika Kisting returned home with state championships in the girls’ Division 3 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and Wild Rose had a pair of state championship 800-meter relay teams in Division 3. The boys’ team of Jeremy Lesniak, Paul Hernandez, Tyler Schmidt and Justin Ida placed first, as well as the girls’ team of Mary Jenks, Ashley Caswell, Maya Dix and Breanne Marchan.

Boys
Division 1
Hortonville: Cody Lohrenz, 200-meter dash, fifth (22.32) and 400-meter dash, fifth (49.01); Trevor Coenen, 300-meter hurdles, did not make finals.

Division 2
Waupaca: Christian Overman, 110-meter hurdles, third (15.07) and 300-meter hurdles, 10th (41.65).

Division 3
Iola-Scandinavia: Kristian Welch, 100-meter dash, seventh (11.44), 200-meter dash, second (22.57) and long jump, seventh (20 feet, 5 inches); Joe Makovec, 1,600-meter run, 17th (10:35.29).

Weyauwega-Fremont: Dylan Pankow, 110-meter hurdles, third (15.59); and triple jump, 13th (40 feet, 11 1/2 inches).

Manawa: 800-meter relay (Daniel Teuscher, Sam Welch, Ethan Hass, Trenton Saunders), third (1:33.32).

Wild Rose: Tanner Hudziak, 400-meter dash, fourth (50.93), 800-meter run, fourth (1:57.88) and long jump, 16th (19 feet, 3 inches); Isaac Hanson, 300-meter hurdles, fourth, (41.15); Austin Schroeder, high jump, eighth (6 feet, 2 inches); Tyler Bauer, discus, 11th (138 feet, 10 inches); Jeremy Lesniak, long jump, 14th (19 feet, 5 inches); 400-meter relay (Jeremy Lesniak, Paul Hernandez, Tyler Schmidt, Justin Ida), ninth (45.33); 800-meter relay (Jeremy Lesniak, Paul Hernandez, Tyler Schmidt, Justin Ida), first (1:32.05); 1,600-meter relay (Paul Hernandez, Tommy Friday, Tyler Schmidt, Tanner Hudziak), second (3:25.86); 3,200-meter relay (Hayden Schwartzman, William Dorsett, Spencer Stanosek-Rockwood, Tommy Friday), 11th (8:23.91).

Girls
Division 1
Hortonville: 3,200-meter relay (Stephanie Jarvis, Alyssa Rafuse, Claire Van Beek, Hannah Lohrenz), 13th (9:39.68).

Division 2
Waupaca: Michelle Petkovsek, 400-meter dash, ninth (59:86) and 800-meter run, eighth (2:18.02); Tatiana Sotka, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, did not make finals; Avrey Simonson, triple jump, 13th (34 feet, 6 3/4 inches); 1,600-meter relay (Michelle Petkovsek, Kristin Petkovsek, Avrey Simonson, Mya Snyder), did not make finals.

Amherst: Alissa Niggemann, 800-meter run, 10th (2:19.55).

Clintonville: Kara Pyatskowit, 1,600-meter run, fourth (5:06.22); and 3,200-meter run, fifth (11:01.29); Allysin Booth, 100-meter hurdles, did not make finals.
