Anytime Fitness prepares for opening

Waupaca marks fifth club for owner

By Angie Landsverk

A space on Waupaca’s west side is in the process of being transformed into an Anytime Fitness club.

In early April, James Moyer bought the building at 970 Furman Drive.

Salon Cloetta and Spa, formerly located in the space which is becoming the gym, moved to 1439 Churchill St.

For Moyer, who grew up in Waupaca, this is his fifth Anytime Fitness project.

“A couple years ago, I bought the Waupaca territory,” he said. “I didn’t know when it would happen. There were a couple hills and valleys.”

Once the Waupaca gym is open, he will own five clubs.

He anticipates the Waupaca location will open sometime this summer.

There will be a grand opening in the fall.

The other clubs Moyer owns are in Stevens Point, Plover, Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield.

Those who join Waupaca’s club before it opens will have access to those four clubs.

“We will be in presale until the day we open,” Moyer said.

People may receive information about memberships by calling 715-942-8300.

Membership at one Anytime Fitness club gives members access to more than 3,000 clubs throughout the world at no additional charge.

Anytime Fitness is a 24-hour coed fitness club for adults.

The gyms are roughly staffed 12 hours a day, with members having access during unstaffed hours through a computerized key-fob system.

Arsen Bedzhanov will be the club manager here.

“We have a great team,” Moyer said. “Arsen has been with us a long time.”

Moyer is confident about offering this new gym option for Waupaca.

“We make it easy for our members to exercise whenever and however they like,” Moyer said. “We’ll have personal trainers available to help you learn how to use all of the equipment and to develop an individualized workout plan, if you like. We’ll also have state-of-the-art systems that allow members to choose from dozens of workouts whenever it’s most convenient for them.”

At the new club in Waupaca, there will be circuit and resistance training machines; free weights; cardio equipment, including treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes; small group fitness classes, including Team Training; private bathrooms, changing rooms and showers; and tanning and massage packages available.

Moyer believes Waupaca area residents will like the gym.

“I always picture it as someplace I’d want my mom to be going,” he said in explaining the feel of the club.

He said their slogan is “Get to A Healthier Place.”

“What differentiates Anytime Fitness from other clubs is our focus on helping members get the results that they’re seeking,” Moyer said. “Our gym will be small enough that we can provide personalized attention for all of our members. Whether weight loss is your goal, or increased strength or improved balanced and flexibility – or a combination – we’re committed to helping you achieve those goals.”

Moyer said Waupaca’s Anytime Fitness club will have close to 6,000 square feet of space.

Plans for the building also include refacing the front of it with new signage.

“I’m excited about opening in my hometown,” Moyer said.
