Winchester presents ‘Best of the Bard’

Dramatic readings from Shakespeare’s plays

Paul McComas will perform “Best of the Bard: Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

Sponsored by Winchester Academy, the program is free and open to the public.

In his return engagement to Waupaca, McComas will perform lively, dramatic readings from 10 of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as providing incisive commentary on the bard’s work.

In anticipation of McComas’ unique performance style, this program is scheduled for 90 minutes – two 45-minute segments with a short coffee break in between.

McComas received a bachelor’s degree in English from Lawrence University in Appleton and master’s degree in film from Northwestern University. He is the editor of two anthologies, as well as the author of six critically-acclaimed books.

Since 1998, McComas has taught film, literature, and writing at multiple levels and has been a visiting artist at 20 universities, academies and arts high schools. He has performed his own and other authors’ works at more than 90 venues nationwide.

A two-time recipient of the Chicago Reader’s Critic’s Choice in Theater/Performance, McComas performed in Chicago, where the Chicago Tribune described his work as “urgent and mesmerizing.” The Chicago Sun-Times says, “No one else is giving author events this lively.”

Born and raised in Milwaukee, McComas says he is always delighted to return to his home state to perform. He and his wife Heather, a fellow fiction writer, live in Evanston, Illinois.

Winchester Academy programs are funded through sponsors and tax-deductible donations.

McComas’s program is sponsored by Pat and Mary Phair.
