New coach ready to lead Waupaca Comets

By Greg Seubert

Waupaca High School football players will soon know what new coach Tom Noltner has in store for the upcoming season.

The team’s annual summer camp will be held Monday to Friday, July 18-22, at the school. Sophomores, juniors and seniors will practice from 7:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. each day, while freshmen will not practice July 22.

The cost is $20 and players can pick up equipment Sunday, July 17, in the hallway near the school’s weight room. Seniors should report at 5:30 p.m., juniors at 6 p.m., sophomores at 6:30 p.m. and freshmen at 7 p.m.

A mandatory meeting for parents is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. July 20 in the school’s Performing Arts Center, while a second meeting for parents will follow in the gym.

“Camp is very important because of the changes, especially in the offense,” said Noltner, who is replacing John Koronkiewicz.

“The terminology and formations are a little different,” he said. “Even if you can’t be here all five days, a lot of mental learning is going to take place that week.”
