Man charged with felony battery

A Clintonville man charged with felony child abuse in June is now accused breaking his girlfriend’s rib.

Wesley W. Caswell, 40, is charged with substantial battery, strangulation, disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct as acts of domestic abuse. He also faces three counts of felony bail jumping.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, Clintonville Police Officer Dennis Finger spoke with Appleton police about a 30-year-old woman who was at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

According to the criminal complaint, Caswell and his girlfriend had been drinking the night before when he became aggressive toward her. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck, choked her and hit her in the ribs with the butt of a knife.

The woman later contacted a friend because it was painful for her to breathe. The friend took her to the hospital, where she was treated for a fractured rib.

Caswell is currently in custody on a $2,500 cash bond.
