Weyauwega-Fremont production opens Aug. 4

The Weyuwega-Fremont summer musical production of “Oklahoma Jr.” opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, in the high school auditorium.

Subsequent performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6 and then at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students.

Tickets are available at the door on each day of a performance.

The doors open at 7 p.m. for the three 7:30 p.m. performances and at 1:30 p.m. for the 2 p.m. performance.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein adaptation is under the direction of James McConnell.

The 18 students in the cast are fifth through ninth graders.

The cast for this year’s production is made up of Twyla Alix, Josh Barnett, George Brunk, Keira DeWilde, Lauren Feltz, Logan Foster, Brayden Grimm, Destiny Kempf, Bailey Lawrence, Alex Lederer, Cora Lederer, Alicia Lederhaus, Ashley Loehrke, Anna Meyer, Emily Munoz, Fidel Patino, Hannah Timm and Taren Zietlow.

Rehearsals began on June 20, with a break over July 4, McConnell said.

Students have been rehearsing three hours a day, Monday through Thursday, in anticipation of the Aug. 4 opening night.

McConnell said the show features beautiful music.

“I was looking for a show that was one the community would be familiar with, and you can’t go wrong with Rodgers and Hammerstein music,” he said. “They’ve (this summer’s cast) have been great to work with. It’s been a fun cast.”
