Scandy library raffles quilt

Proceeds to pay for new shelving

Community members will have a chance to win a quilt and other prizes through a raffle fundraiser at the Scandinavia Public Library.

“Proceeds from the raffle will help the library maintain and support our growing collection,” said Library Director Sue Vater Olsen. “Of special concern is the need for new shelving and book supports.”

Raffle tickets are available now, and the drawing will take place at the Scandinavia Public Library at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tickets cost $5 each or three for $10, and are available at the library and from library employees and board members.

First prize is a quilt and second prize is an afghan, plus cash prizes of $100 for third, $75 for fourth and $50 for fifth.

The bed-size quilt was sewn by librarian Meredith Miller, library board member Jane Marx and library patrons Diane Newby, Priscilla Obermeier, and Julia Peper from a Thimbleberries quilt kit donated by a library patron. It was professionally quilted by Sondra Reierson of Sondra’s Custom Creations in Ogdensburg.

The quilt measures 90 inches by 109 inches. On a queen-size bed, the quilt is large enough to tuck under and pull over top of the pillows. On a king-size bed, the quilt will pull up under the pillows.

For the library raffle’s second prize, Herrschners of Stevens Point has donated a luxurious, cream colored, 42-inch by 62-inch lace knit afghan.

“I’m always impressed with the level of community support our library receives,” said librarian Meredith Miller. “The raffle wouldn’t be possible without these donations from our patrons. I think it shows how well the library is perceived as a valuable community resource.”
