On the move

Familiar businesses find new homes in New London

By Scott Bellile

A handful of established New London businesses moved from one office to another this month.

The Press Star checked in with the business owners to see where they are now and why they made the move. Their statements have been edited for length and clarity.

Coldwell Banker
Old address: 111 W. North Water St.
New address: 1275 N. Shawano St. Suite B (next to Verizon Wireless)
Date opened at new location: Sept. 1

Why did you make the move? “A better situation for the updates that are needed in today’s real estate world as far as the technology,” said Tyler Jedwabny, broker manager. “The building was able to be totally reconstructed for a much more modern feel, all allowing us to better serve our clients and customers. The new location also allows us to reach out to more areas outside of New London.”

How are things going? “They are going absolutely wonderful,” he said. “The agents are really liking the facilities, clients and customers are wowed when they walk in, and it’s really giving us a sense of pride within the community.”

What do you hope to get out of the new location? “The visibility, being off of the main highway in a little bit more traveled area, as well as reaching the Clintonville and Shawano areas a little bit easier,” he said.

Lynn Tank Insurance
Old address: 401 W. North Water St. Suite 200 (above First Merit Bank)
New address: 221 W. North Water St. (former Ronda Olson American Family Insurance building)
Date opened at new location: Sept. 6

Why did you make the move? “I didn’t have a storefront,” owner Lynn Tank said. “I was up in that office for three years and people still had no idea I was up there … Moving into that [new] building, I’m going to have a storefront. I’m sure I’m going to have a lot more walk-ins.”

How are things going? “I think everything’s going really well,” Tank said. “It’s a little early for me to tell. Open enrollment starts Oct. 1, so then I’ll really be able to get a feel for it, but so far it’s going OK.”

What do you hope to get out of the new location? “I’m really hoping that I’ll end up with more business because I will be easier to find,” Tank said, “and I’m hoping it’ll be easier for my existing clients to get to me as well because they’ll be able to park and come right in. They’re not going through the bank. Accessibility is what I’m looking for.”

Malliet Travel
Old address: 300 W. North Water St.
New address: 1819 N. Shawano St. (shared space with 24-hour tanning salon Touch-n-Tan)
Date opened at new location: Sept. 6

Why did you make the move? “Just more space, newer building and the businesses seem to complement each other well,” owner Michelle Malliet said. “We will be doing some cross-marketing where people can vacation and get a special on their tanning packages, things like that.”

How are things going? “Good so far,” Malliet said. “Got all moved in. We’re pretty much set up. I think we’re going to get a lot more exposure … We’re just much easier to find now.”

What do you hope to get out of the new location? “More exposure.”

Ronda Olson American Family Insurance
Old address: 221 W. North Water St.
New address: 1620 N. Shawano St.
Date opened at new location: Sept. 1

Why did you make the move? “Convenience,” owner Ronda Olson said. “I thought it was a better location. Easier to get into and less rent.”

How are things going? “So far, so good,” Olson said.

What do you hope to get out of the new location? “I think we’re going to be seen more out there with Val’s and Wal-Mart and Pomp’s and the gas stations and Taco Bell,” she said. “Downtown doesn’t really seem to have that much … I just thought this was fresh and new.”
