‘World of Jan Brett’

Library to open exhibit on children’s author

The Waupaca Area Public Library is painting up an adventure with the opening of a new traveling exhibit, “The World of Jan Brett.”

The exhibit, which runs Oct. 3 through Dec. 24, invites visitors to step into the stories of the children’s author/illustrator.

“Visitors to the exhibit are going to be able to interact with their favorite Jan Brett stories like never before,” said Joan Lloyd, of the Oshkosh Public Museum.

The exhibit opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the lower-level exhibit room.

Visitors may enjoy activities, a Jan Brett Storytime at 6:15 p.m. and refreshments.

“The World of Jan Brett” features more than 50 original paintings and children-friendly graphics and labels.

The exhibit encourages playful exploration, and colorful graphics introduce visitors to cultures around the world.

Brett has more than 35 million books in print and has been one of America’s most beloved children’s authors and illustrators for more than 30 years.

Her illustrations are adored for their classic beauty and vibrant life-like images of animals, landscapes and flourishes from cultures around the world.

“When you look at my illustrations I hope they take you to a different place and time,” says Brett. “Every illustration has a dozen stories behind the brushstrokes.”

Brett will also visit Waupaca on Sunday, Dec. 4 on her national book tour.

She will present a short program at 5 p.m. and sign books, at the Waupaca Middle School auditorium.

“The World of Jan Brett” is a traveling exhibition organized by the Oshkosh Public Museum, in partnership with Brett.

The exhibit’s display at the Waupaca Area Public Library is part of a nationwide tour.
