Connecting Manawa trails

Group seeks donations to complete project

The scenic bike and walking trails around Manawa are in need of the public’s help.

The Wolf River Trails Organization has been developing its trail system around the Manawa community since 2009. There are a few different portions surrounding the area.

The river portion is very scenic, includes many boardwalks as well as a covered bridge, and is accessible via Lindsay Park by the tennis courts.

The Pat Wade Memorial Trail, located along and behind the Manawa Elementary School, is accessible off of Beech Street and Garrity Road. Map information tubes are located in some entrances to the trail system.

The process of connecting these trails, in order to complete a route around the city, has been a slow process but the group is reaching results. Manawa residents have donated time, land and other resources to help extend and maintain these trails.

Construction is underway to connect the trails along County Trunk B, all the way to the Pat Wade Memorial Trail. The current project includes digging out the trail, placing culverts and a storm sewer, leveling the path for the connecting trail portion, and laying down the gravel.

The Little Wolf Trail Committee is based in Manawa, and is a nonprofit volunteer organization. The committee usually relies on the annual Stampede 5k/10k for funding, however this project is so large that additional funds are needed.

All the donations and proceeds go directly to these trails, and no tax dollars are used. This is where the public’s help is needed.

The Little Wolf Trail Committee needs help from the community to blacktop a portion of the trail, known as the Beech Street project. This project is so large that additional funds are needed. Not only are these trails helping to beautify Manawa, they are keeping its residents active and involved.

A gofundme page (gofund.me/2pgv6mf8) has been established to help in the journey. To donate via check, make the check out to WCNRF (Waupaca County Natural Resource Foundation).
