Runners turn in top-10 finishes

Comets host cross country meet

Three top-10 finishes weren’t enough for the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds.

The T-Bird cross country team had three of the top seven runners in the girls’ race at the Waupaca Invitational Sept. 29, but had to settle for seventh place overall.

Erika Kisting finished second for I-S in 20:13, Leighten Fischer placed sixth in 21:04 and Jada Beacom was seventh in 21:17.

Brynn Rasmussen and Haley Ullom rounded out the top five for the T-Birds. Rasmussen placed 54th in 25:05, while Ullom was 76th in 29:15.

Allison Halat led Weyauwega-Fremont by placing 17th in 22:37. Other times and places for the Indians included Natalie Schneider (28th, 23:29); Saylor Alberts (45th, 24:50); Katie Monty (60th, 25:22); Katie Bleck (61st, 25:23); and Destiny Kempf (74th, 28:34).

Karina Lisigor turned in the fastest time for Waupaca, as she placed 39th in 24:43. Other times and places for the Comets included Mya Snyder (59th, 25:20); Victoria Nowak (64th, 25:35); Kristin Petkovsek (71st, 26:18); Lexi Tripp (75th, 29:02); Isabella Elandt (78th, 33:15); and Sarah Shambeau (78th, 33:33).

Team scores for the girls were Peshtigo (93), Fox Valley Lutheran (105), Winneconne (111), Tomahawk and Marinette (134), Rhinelander (137), Iola-Scandinavia (145), Wrightstown (188), Weyauwega-Fremont (211), Seymour (217), Amherst (225) and Waupaca (308).

The T-Birds did not field a full boys’ team, but Joe Makovec had a top-10 finish, as he placed fourth in 17:55. Erik Kriewaldt finished 31st in 19:18, Jordan Fuhs placed 81st in 22:36 and Trenton Niemi was 87th in 24:41.

Duane Brazil placed 23rd in 19:13 to lead the W-F boys. Other places and times for the Indians included Patrick Long (46th, 20:06); Jacob Carroll (61st, 21:43); Zarek Hoffman (80th, 22:50); and Chris Strehlow (83rd, 24:11).

Hunter Smith placed seventh in 18:34 to lead Waupaca. Other places and times for the Comets included Danny Esch (36th, 19:47); Dayton Bell (55th, 20:55); Owen Vassar (59th, 21:38); Abram Jackson (64th, 21:47); Ryan Phillipsen (72nd, 22:13); and Colby Nimmer (73rd, 22:15).

Team scores for the boys were Tomahawk (95), Seymour (99), Fox Valley Lutheran (107), Peshtigo (119), Amherst (133), Rhinelander (137), Winneconne (161), St. Mary Catholic (175), Waupaca (221), Marinette (227), Wrightstown (244), Weyauwega-Fremont (293) and Shiocton (329).
