Donors needed for Christmas program

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office third annual Shop with a Cop program seeks donors to help local children and their families enjoy the holiday season.

This program, taking place Dec. 6, offers underprivileged Waupaca County children 12 and under the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their families. It depends on free-will offerings and donations to support the program.

“The goal for 2014 was to take 20 children shopping,” Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel said. “The community support for 2014 was outstanding. Officers throughout Waupaca County were able to help 32 children. In 2015 the goal was to take 40 children shopping. Forty children were invited and officers were able to take 39 shopping. The children’s ages ranged from 3-12. Everyone left that night with smiles on their faces.”

To help sponsor the program, make checks payable to WPSO-Shop with a Cop and mail them to Detective Cameron Durrant, c/o Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, 1402 E. Royalton St., Waupaca, WI 54981.

For non-monetary donations or further information, contact Durrant at 715-258-4466 or email [email protected].

The Shop with a Cop Program involves law enforcement officers from all agencies in Waupaca County who donate their time to take a group of children on a Christmas shopping spree. Children are selected by referrals from social service agencies, schools and community.

Donated $100 gift cards are provided to each child. The children purchase Christmas gifts for their family members while shopping at Waupaca Mills Fleet Farm.

Dinner for the children and officers, gift-wrapping by volunteers and games conclude the evening. The program provides the children an opportunity to experience the personal rewards of giving to others.
