W-F to play at Shiocton Oct. 20

By Greg Seubert

Weyauwega-Fremont swept Manawa in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference volleyball match during the regular season.

The teams faced each other Oct. 18 in the first round of the WIAA state tournament and the result was the same.

The Indians took all three games from the Wolves – 25-11, 25-13, 25-9 – in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal in Weyauwega. Becky Schroeder had 15 kills for the Indians against the Wolves, while Hannah Sroka added eight digs and Kiley Akey finished with 10 assists.

The third-seeded Indians will now face No. 2 Shiocton at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in a regional semifinal in Shiocton. The Chiefs advanced with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Rosholt. The winner of that match will play for a regional championship Saturday, Oct. 22, most likely in Wittenberg against the top-seeded Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers.

W-B will host No. 5 Amherst Oct. 20 in another regional semifinal. Amherst advanced with a five-set win Oct. 18 over St. Mary Catholic, while the Chargers swept No. 8 Iola-Scandinavia.
