Root 49 offers unique atmosphere

By Holly Neumann

Owners Shaun Knorr and Angie Diemel have opened Root 49 Salon and Spa, located at 260 Adams St. in Iola.

“This is something that we have always wanted to do,” Knorr said, “When this building became available, I decided to go for it.”

“Shaun and I had talked about it over a campfire this summer,” Diemel said. “So when she got the process started I quickly jumped on board. I loved the idea of branching out on our own.”

Root 49 offers their customers hair services, pedicures, manicures, facials and Ionic Foot Detox.

“We offer services that are not offered anywhere else in Iola, in a unique relaxed atmosphere,” Knorr said.

“It’s cozy here,” Diemel said.

The building, which was previously occupied by Rice Printing, has been completely renovated and reflects a country style charm.

“We gutted the whole thing,” Knorr said. “It now has a reclaimed look.”

The barn board and tin that now decorates the walls were taken from Knorr’s parents’ old barn and farmhouse. There are two separate rooms; one that serves as a spa and the other, the salon.

Diemel brings years of experience with her.

“I previously worked in Waupaca, where I rented a chair for 15 years.” Diemel said. “I have gotten many new customers and some of my previous cliental have followed me here.”

“I graduated from hair school 15 years ago,” Knorr said. “I worked a couple years here and there and then worked another job with long hours. I am happy to get back into styling again.”

Both women are excited about their new venture.

“I like the variety of not doing the same thing every day,” Knorr said, “and I can set my own hours.”

Diemel agreed.

“Meeting all the new people has been wonderful,” she said. “People have just stopped in to wish us well.”

Root 49 will have its grand opening from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.

“We will be having door prizes, snacks, drinks and more,” Diemel said. “We will even be giving styling tips.”

“Stop in and check us out,” Knorr. added “Come in and see what we have done with the place.”

Currently Root 49 in open by appointment only and can be reached by calling 715-445-2683.
