Spartans spoil Comets’ home opener

Luxemburg-Casco just misses century mark

By Greg Seubert

Luxemburg-Casco shared last season’s North Eastern Conference boys’ basketball championship with Wrightstown.

It looks like the Spartans haven’t missed a beat, as they handed Waupaca a 99-60 loss Dec. 2 in the Comets’ home opener.

The Spartans used an 18-10 run at the end of the first half to take a 40-25 lead at the break before outscoring the Comets 59-35 over the next 18 minutes.

Waupaca cut the lead to 53-43 early in the second half on a Ryan Dayton basket, but the Spartans used five three-pointers to push the lead to 76-49. Waupaca never got any closer than 25 points the rest of the way.

Dayton and Brandon Wanty led Waupaca with 14 points each, while the Spartans’ Mitchell Jandrin led all scorers with 24.

Waupaca will play at New London Dec. 6 before returning to North Eastern play at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Clintonville.
