Winning streak ends

Comets fall to Little Chute, Mosinee

By Greg Seubert

The Waupaca girls’ basketball team doesn’t want to go into the Christmas holiday break with a three-game losing streak.
That will be the case if the Comets fall to Berlin Thursday, Dec. 22.

Waupaca’s three-game winning streak came to an end with recent losses to Little Chute and Mosinee.

Little Chute handed the Comets a 60-25 North Eastern Conference loss Dec. 15 two days after Waupaca came out on the short end of a 48-32 score at Mosinee.

WAUPACA – A 16-0 run helped the Mustangs take a 32-12 halftime lead on the Comets’ home court.

Little Chute went on to score the first seven points of the second half and never led the Comets get any closer than 26 points the rest of the way.

Emma Smidt and Victoria Nowak led Waupaca with eight points each. Tess Keyzers came off the bench to lead Little Chute with 17 points.

Mosinee 48, Waupaca 32
MOSINEE – Waupaca trailed the Indians 20-18 at halftime behind 16 points from Nowak, but Mosinee outscored the Comets 28-14 in the second half.

Nowak led all scorers with 24 points, while Jaycie Dulak had 12 points for the Indians.

Tipoff with Berlin at Waupaca High School is set for 7:15 p.m. The Comets are then off until they return to conference play Tuesday, Jan. 3, in Appleton against Fox Valley Lutheran.
