Shop with a Cop

Officers share holiday spirit with children

People and businesses from throughout Waupaca County made it possible for 33 children to Shop with a Cop this holiday season.

The third annual program took place on Dec. 6, at the Waupaca Recreation Center.

Organizers raised more than $7,000 for the event.

A total of 45 officers from every law enforcement agency that works within Waupaca County participated.

That included the Waupaca Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the police departments from Waupaca, Weyauwega, Fremont, New London, Manawa, Marion, Iola and Clintonville.

The officers donated their time.

The Waupaca School District donated drivers and buses to transport the officers and children to and from Waupaca Mills Fleet Farm.

Mills Fleet Farm is one of the program’s largest supporters and had extra staff on hand to assist in the shopping experience.

The children received $150 to spend on gifts.

They spent $125 of that amount on themselves and $25 on a gift for themselves.

After the shopping was complete, all were transported back to the recreation center.

Between 20 and 30 volunteers were waiting there to wrap the childrens’ gifts.

That was followed by dinner.

Little Caesars Pizza, of Waupaca, provided dinner for all who participated.

Santa Claus was also at the recreation center to listen to the wish lists of the children.
